Day 1 - Museum and Punting

After arriving in Cambridge we will check into the Varsity Hotel, a stylish boutique hotel with a fantastic location in the very centre of Cambridge. We will spend the morning exploring Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum, which contains a fantastic collection of art and antiques. Lunch today will be at the Oak Bistro, a classy local bistro with a beautiful walled garden, serving refined British and European cuisine. After lunch we will take a guided punt along the River Cam, taking in the beautiful views of colleges and their gardens from the Backs while sipping on a glass of champagne. This evening we will dine in the Varsity Hotel’s restaurant, Six. The restaurant serves gourmet wood-fired pizzas and classic rotisseries but the experience of eating here is as much about the location. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the hotel, just below the rooftop garden, and offers spectacular panoramic views over the city, including St. John’s, Trinity, Jesus and Magdalene colleges.

Day 2 - Colleges and Market

This morning we will take a private tour of some of the university’s most impressive colleges and our expert guide will fill us in on Cambridge’s rich history. We will enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of Cambridge’s true food icons: Fitzbillies. Fitzbillies, with its Grade II listed art deco façade, is a café and bakery, famed for its secret recipe Chelsea buns, which has been delighting punters for nearly 100 years. They now serve an excellent lunch menu and the Baker’s potatoes (poached in ham stock and crisped in duck fat) are not to be missed. This afternoon we will wander around the outdoor market and boutique stores of Cambridge city centre before heading back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner. Dinner this evening will be served in a charming conservatory on the bank of the River Cam in the two Michelin-starred Midsummer House. The restaurant’s menu is designed to taste as natural as possible and uses the most seasonal produce.

Day 3 - Countryside and Choir

One of the lovely things about Cambridge as a city is how close it is to the countryside. This morning we will take a pleasant walk along the banks of the River Cam, through green fields, to the picturesque village of Grantchester. After a look around the village we will head to The Orchard for lunch. This quaint and quintessentially English tea room serves light lunches and afternoon teas in the glorious outdoor setting of their beautiful orchard garden. This evening, before dinner, we will attend the Evensong service at St John’s College, Cambridge. Many visitors flock to King’s College for this experience but there are often long queues to get in and those in the know say that the celebrated Chapel Choir at John’s is better than its King’s counterpart. The chapel at St. John’s College is magnificent and hearing the choir sing is a truly special experience. We will be rounding off our time in Cambridge with dinner at locally renowned restaurant, Cotto. This exceptional restaurant serves elegantly refined dishes made from locally sourced ingredients.
